Seasonal Climate

Spring — Temperatures rise gradually through March, though late frosts are possible into mid-April. River fog lifts from the basin as days lengthen, replaced by mild, occasionally showery conditions through May. Pollen counts peak in April.

Summer — Warm to hot, with daytime highs regularly reaching 30 °C in July and August. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent from June onwards, sometimes intense. Evenings cool pleasantly in the river basin. The driest spells typically come in late July.

Autumn — September remains mild, but temperatures drop sharply from October. Morning fog returns to the basin and can persist well into the afternoon. First frosts usually arrive in early November. Rain is moderate and steady.

Winter — Cold and occasionally snowy, with January the coldest month. Temperatures regularly fall below freezing, and inversions in the basin can bring prolonged grey skies and frost. Snow cover is intermittent, rarely lasting more than a week at city level.
